DBeaver is one of the leading DBA client and database managers for the developers and database admins.

  • It’s free and open source.
  • It supports many databases. DBeaver support for almost all kind of databases then either it is Cassandra, Redis, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Teradata or Vetica or any other.
  • It’s multi-platforms. Besides the usual Linux, Mac OS, and Windows - also runs on venerable UNIX systems like Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX.

But there are some cons…

  • Its main drawback is that the compact interface. It’s so packed of features and little ease-of-use shortcuts all over the place that it’s easy to miss or overlook something.

  • It’s written in Java. I don’t mean to disregard the Java community but this is a minus point for its performance in comparison to other native apps. It’s slow and eating RAM. Especially when it comes to dealing with heavy operations, it’s likely to hang for a while.

  • The setup process is a little difficult and unintuitive. It might take some time to figure out if the connection is working or not.

If you’re looking for an alternative GUI Client for MySQL that can help you with those problems, TablePlus is the one.
