What’s new in Mojave, the new macOS?

Apple just released the latest macOS, Mojave last week, on September 24th, with many interesting features:

  • A new view for Finder, with Gallery View, view metadata, and Quick Actions.
  • Desktop Stacks to keep your desktop well-organized.
  • Dynamic Desktops.
  • Group FaceTime, a feature that was removed from the earlier beta, is expected to come later this year.
  • The Night Mode.
  • Some new apps and improved security.

And perhaps the Dark Mode, the most long-awaited feature, has finally come. The benefit of having a dark mode is basically beyond pure aesthetics, it helps you to concentrate easier, boost your productivity, or just have a better feel when you work.

Not only the default apps by Apple has this theme switching ability such as Finder, Safari, Calendar, Messages, but many third-party apps quickly adopted it, including TablePlus.

There are some compatibility issues

But whenever we have a new macOS, there will be a lot of compatibility issues. The app developers are not responding fast enough thus the apps do not work as expected. Some common issues on Mojave are:

  • The app can’t open (VyprVPN, Malwarebytes, etc)
  • The interface doesn’t display properly (Airmail 3, Postico, Google Chrome, etc)
  • The apps crash (Spotify, Sequel Pro, etc)
  • It’s freezing or slow (Safari, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, etc)

These are very annoying issues so before upgrading the macOS, make sure all apps you use are fully compatible with Mojave to prevent your work from being interupted.

What’s changed in TablePlus?

With the new update, TablePlus is now fully compatible with the new macOS. You can use TablePlus on Mojave without any problems.

TablePlus also has a new theming scheme:

  • The dark theme (or night mode) is now available to all free users. It was previously a privilege for an upgraded version but now anyone can be able to switch TablePlus to the dark theme and use it forever.
  • You can choose the theme manually, or you can make it switch automatically based on the system theming scheme, light or dark.
